hand animals
hand animals
Too late at night in my graduate design studio, I took out a black Sharpie and started to draw on a large piece of newsprint. I drew my hands in the shape of an animal – 4 legs and a long neck. They stood on a prairie grazing with their arms extending off the page. In the background, stood a barn. One of the hand animals had a watch on their wrist; time 4 o’clock. That was 1992; they have now resurfaced in the form of picture books. They visit earth, a museum, ask, "what is urban?", read lines from Emily Dickinson, wonder what it is like getting old, and ask, "is that your bed?"
